Description: First issue. Early 1930s were bad years for the Texas Rangers making this a prominent copy trying to resurrect their image. Ranks were diminished by wholesale exit of bad hires and alcoholics, Texas also got bad publicity from all real-life outlaws roaming the State: The force saw its salaries and funds slashed by the Texas Legislature, and their numbers reduced further to 32 men. Texas became a safe hideout for the many Depression-era gangsters escaping from the law, such as Bonnie and Clyde, George "Machine Gun" Kelly, Pretty Boy Floyd and Raymond Hamilton. The hasty appointment of many unqualified Rangers to stop the increasing criminality proved ineffective. This magazine attempts to present far better image:Texas bulldogger, Lone Wolf rides, Jim Hatfield, ranger (Jackson Cole), rare story by King Vidor, popular Hollywood director and promoter of the Texas image (born in Galveston), cartoon of famous Texas Rangers. More than a pulp magazine. Yellowed paper. Rare.
