Description: This earthenware bowl is in the shape of a Kadai or Indian wok, but it is not marked. When I first got it, I thought that it was probably Mexican or Latin American earthenware. With the blackened, pit fired patches, I considered Catawba pottery as I live near the reservation, but was unable to find any similar examples. The kadai is the closest thing that I could find. Any information would be appreciated. It has thick walls and is heavy as a result. The handles have a nice little flange decoration on each side. The bowl was made rather primitively, you can see the lines where the potter smoothed the inside with a small tool as well as the uneveness of the clay surface. There is some small pitting in the clay from the firing process. Definitely utilitarian ware. The bowl measures around 11" diameter at the outside rim. There is some slight deviation depending on which way you measure it. It is about 3-1/2" tall. I have another piece, similar to this one, a little smaller, that I purchased at the same time and will also be listing. Thank you for taking a look! Hopefully you'll check out my other items. I'm a long term picker who has specialized in antiques and collectibles for over 20 years and look for something a little different, hence the name. I've been a warehouse and restaurant manager so understand how to pack for success and give good customer service. Feel free to look at my feedback page. I do work full time, hence the three day shipping allowance, but I do try to get them out the next day when possible. It also makes me sometimes slower than I'd like answering questions or putting on new items, but I will get back to you as soon as I can and try not to be lazy about getting listings on. Thanks for looking and feel free to write me with any questions or new information about my items. It sometimes gets difficult to exactly identify something and I appreciate feedback and comments from the eBay community! Have a great day and happy hunting!
