Description: TEPHROCACTUS ARTICULATUS VAR. DIADEMATUS- Once cataloged as Opuntia articultus, renamed Tephrocactus in 1953. Often called "Spruce Cone, or "Pine Cone" Cactus. Originally native to Argentina, these have a wide range from Cordoba, Mendoza, Salta, San Luis, and Santiago del Estero. Nice specimens on on roots, generally two or three joints or pads. Produces white flowers when undisturbed. Listed as "common". Fairly easy to grow in most climates, must be protected from frost. Photo here is to give an idea of the plant, they vary greatly.
