Description: Richmond is a city in and the county seat of eastern Wayne County, Indiana and borders the state of Ohio. The city had a population of 35,720 in 2020. In 1806 the first European Americans in the area, Quaker families from the state of North Carolina, settled along the East Fork of the Whitewater River. This was part of a general westward migration in the early decades after the American Revolution. John Smith was one of the earliest settlers. The first post office in Richmond was established n 1818 with Robert Morrison as the first postmaster. The town was officially incorporated in 1840 with John Sailor elected the first mayor. The city was connected to the “National Road”, the first road built by the federal government and a major route west for pioneers of the 19th century. It became part of the system of “National Auto Trails”. The highway is now known as U.S. Route 40. This is a card published exclusively for “Walter L. Dalby, Richmond” and captured a scene on “Tenth Street, Richmond Ind Looking North from Wescott Hotel”. I googled the Wescott Hotel and found it nowhere near tenth. The card is postmarked 1908 in Richmond and is in very good condition with minor wear. There is some ink smears upper middle but the image is generally clean, clear image. There is a neatly written message to “Effie and Grandma” on the reverse which is clean. The colors on the card may vary due to the scanner settings and screen projections.Unless otherwise noted, I use Wikipedia, Playle's and Metropostcard for research and try to be as accurate as possible. Corrections appreciated. If this your card, it will be mailed promptly upon receipt of payment......
