This brilliant adaptation of the Shakespearean comedy was co-produced by Taylor and Burton, who put up $1 million of their own money and took a percentage of the profits instead of fixed salaries. All of the actors are so natural in their roles that the sometimes difficult, if not obtuse, Shakespearean verse sounds instead like believable conversation. The film boasts gorgeous sets and costumes; indeed, the films received Oscar nominations for Best Art/Set Decoration and Best Costume Design.
