The check was signed by the mining company's president Jerome Day. Jerome Day served as president of the Tamarack & Custer Consolidated Mining Company from 1912 until his death in 1941. He was also the company's manager and treasurer. Day was a prominent figure in the Idaho mining industry, serving as president of the Idaho Mining Association from 1919 - 1922. He was also a state senator from Latah County for three terms and a member of the Idaho Democratic party. ABOUT THE TAMARACK & CUSTER CONSOLIDATED MINING CO.꞉ The Tamarack & Custer Consolidated Mining Company mined lead, silver, zinc, copper and gold. In 1913, the Custer Consolidated Mining Company (organized in 1910 to manage a number of older mines) merged with the adjacent Tamarack & Chesapeak Mining Company, forming the Tamarack & Custer Consolidated Mining Company. Tamarack & Custer Consolidated Mining Company existed from 1912 to 1947 when it then became Day Mines Incorporated (from 1947 to 1981) followed by its current-day owner the Hecla Mining Company. Its last year of production was 1978 according to Western Mining History. ABOUT THE WALLACE DRUG COMPANY꞉ In 1914, the Wallace Drug Company was located at 410 Sixth Street, Wallace, Idaho and had a lovely crank-out canopy which, when expanded, would help keep the store cooler by blocking the sun. The drug store was located on the ground-floor of a three-story stone building. The law firm of Bixby and Marlow was above them on the second-floor. Remarkably, today, the building is still standing and the address is now home to the North Side Electric and Supply Company, and yes, they have a crank-out canopy too!
