Description: This is a framed colored print of the "Yukon Store" painting done by Sydney Laurence (1865-1940). It has been nicely matted, framed and covered with glass. The image size is 9" x 7". With frame, it measures 15" x 12". Below the print, "Yukon Store - Sydney Laurence" is written in pencil on the left and "Griffins - Alaska" is written in pencil on the right. Laurence was born in Brooklyn and painted in the St. Ives art colony in England in the 1890's, while also entering some works into the Paris Salons. For unknown reasons, he came to Alaska around 1903 or 1904 and within fifteen years became the first professionally trained artist in the state to achieve prominence. Laurence's paintings sell at auction for many thousands of dollars. These prints were marketed and sold during the 1960's by Griffins of Alaska, Alaska's premier department store.
