Description: Superb c1810s English Regency Sarcophagus Form Rosewood Tea Caddy Chest Presented is an excellent English Regency rosewood tea caddy, dating to the first quarter of the 1800s. The caddy is made in a handsome classical sarcophagus type form, with a stepped and beveled lid, ball feet, and ring handles. The caddy is done in a rich dark rosewood and has a ridged decorative trim around the lid and along the corners. The brass details are particularly nice, with floral decoration on the feet and ornate high relief floral mounts for the ring handles . The interior has two tea compartments with hinged lids, with a glass mixing bowl in the center. The glass bowl is likely a replacement, but fits well and looks great with the caddy. The interior of the lid is lined in pink velvet. The lock is present but we do not have the key, unfortunately. This tea caddy is in great overall condition. There are some repairs to the trim: one to the bottom left edge on the front, one to the bottom right edge on the back, and possibly some restorations to the bottom right corner as well, though these look like they used the original wood and are very hard to notice. The trim on the lid has had some repairs as well, but these also were done with the original wood. One section of the ridged design trim has been re glued (top right corner on the back side). But even the repairs done in the slightly lighter wood (visible in the first photo, bottom left edge) are hard to notice without inspection. There is a notch in the ridged trim on the righthand vertical edge on the front. The veneer of the lid has some age splits, but nothing is loose or missing. The interiors of the compartments are missing most of the foil lining. Please view all photos carefully as they are part of the description.
