Click images to enlarge Description A SUPERB ANTIQUE EDWARDIAN OAK PICTURE FRAME ~ ... a wonderful high-quality antique oak frame with a fabulous bevelled border, the frieze with a super interesting tiger-oak grain with an uber-smooth & tactile patina with lots of interesting detail in the oak grain, with smart raised beadline to sight edge ~ Measuring approximately 24 & 1/2" by 17 & 1/8" (External) ~ With a rebate size (to fit a picture) of 19 & 3/8" by 12" (Internal) ~ Or, in centimetres 49.5cm by 30.5cm ~ Sight size is 18 & 7/8" by 11 & 1/2" ~ * dating at a guess to around 1900 this is a fabulous old oak picture frame ~ a classic Edwardian design, frames such as these are always excellent quality, super-sturdy with ultra-solid corner joints ~ ** The border is an ever-so-softly bevelled affair, the edge reaching outwards & upwards has the effect of drawing your eye into the image, the frieze has a fabulous oak grain & patina, this is a frame that feels good hold; it is certainly the work of a master frame-maker & this ancient carpenter's nails are still visible at the corners of the frame ~ *** These types of Edwardian frames are a perfect blend of understated design and elegant craftsmanship & the smooth and tactile border, along with the raised lip to sight edge, adds a touch of sophistication and draws the eye into the picture ~ these frames to me, are a work of art in themselves & always enhance the beauty of any image they hold ~ Victorian / Edwardian Oak Frames Frames such as these are often referred to (mainly in the U.S.) as being 'Quarter-Sawn' OR 'Mission' due to the almost perfectly matching grain pattern in the Oak ~ ... entirely constructed & mitred by hand this is a beautiful early 20th Century Oak frame with a real sense of Arts & Crafts style ~ The Edwardians & Victorians were passionate about using frames such as these to show off a photo of a family member sporting their Sunday best, it will also suit a quality antique gravure print or classical litho ~ This frame will suit a certain picture OR perhaps an image of a loved one; it is certainly a frame that will grace any wall ~ it would also make a fabulous mirror!
