Description: Greetings, You are bidding on an enamel painted copper by Lidia Lanfranconi of Studio Del Campo. Titled "San Martino" St Martin is one of the most familiar and recognizable Christian saints in Western tradition. When Martin was a soldier in the Roman army and stationed in Gaul (modern day France), he experienced a vision, which became the most repeated story about his life. One day as he was approaching the gates of the city of the Amiens, he met a scantily clad beggar. He impulsively cut his military cloak in half to share with the man. That night, Martin dreamed of Jesus wearing the half-cloak he had given away. He heard Jesus say to the angels: "Martin, who is but a catechumen, clothed me with this robe". In another version, when Martin woke, he found his cloak restored to wholeness. The dream confirmed Martin in his piety, and he was baptised at the age of 18. Studio Del Campo (1957-1988) was a collective of two couples, the artists/craftspeople Virgilio Bari, Lidia Lanfranconi, Bianca Tuninetto and Euclid Chiambretti. They were known for high-quality finishing and working in difficult techniques such as Grisaille d'Or and Basse-taille. They collaborated with a number of famed designers and architects, notably Gio Ponti and Ettorre Sottsass. Approximately 19.5" W x 28" H *Please not there are some chips to the border and some crackling to the enamel
