Day and night slaves toiled, blowing glass bottles and jars cups and other glasswear, glazing it with copper wash and firing it in a wood fired oven . Many of the delicate bottles and jars were broken in the process, swept out along with the ashes and dumped in a heap near the kilns. Over the centuries the different chemicals within the ashes and the glass, with the help of rain water, and the natural properties within the soil caused oxidation to form on the glass creating a delicate patina of rainbow colors in a stained glass effect.
