Description: Artist: Stephen Sands (b. 1930) Frame Size: 27.25" x 23.25"Visible Art Size: 19.5" x 15.5"Medium: oil on canvas This beautiful tree on the beach is a Kiawe tree (written as Keawe on the back), painted on location in Maui by Stephen Sands in 1983. The sky, water, and sand is painted in a smooth way, while the bark of the tree has added paint for texture, and also some extra on the leaves and brush around the base of the tree. The painting is in good condition. The frame has wear on the corners, including chips and extra dings to both left corners. It has a nice frame with brown and black bands and a row of black velvet. They used both halves of a wood clothespin on the top and bottom of the back, an unusual method to try and keep the painting secure in the frame. It works alright, but could be better. The back edges have evidence of old duct tape that was used.
