THE 102nd ANNIVERSARY OF THE HOUSE OF STEIFFBefore 1903, Richard Steiff, the nephew of Margarete Steiff, designed a range of Teddy Bears. These bears became commercially successful at the 1903 Leipzig Fair in Germany, and Steiff sold 12,000 pieces that year. 970,000 pieces were sold by 1907, and the Teddy Bear became a legend. 10,000 LIMITED EDITION"TEDDY BEAR TEA SETS"These limited edition sets consist of four bears: a white, a dark brown, a beige, and a caramel, together with a miniature china tea set that was reproduced by old-time artisans to the same exacting standards as the priceless originals. These bears conform as closely as possible to the historic model of 1903.Every Teddy Bear set in this series is numbered (3366) on its white tag and button in the ear and includes a certificate of authenticity signed in facsimile by Hans-Otto Steiff. Each piece stands as a reminder of a firm with a great history and as a concrete example of the principle of quality, unsurpassed by the products of any other plush toy maker in the world. Last but not least, each piece constitutes a special reverence for a "Great Personality"... the Teddy Bear, a personality which still endures as the most memorable toy in the world. CONDITIONThis set appears to have been used for display only. The original straps secure all four bears. The bears and interior of the box are in excellent condition. The box has some tears at the corners (see pictures). The plastic overlay has some discoloration, which is unsurprising for an item of this age. The prior owner also removed the tea set (complete) from its package, which was initially attached to the table. I have not determined how the package is filled and turned upside down on the table. As a result, while the tea set will be sent in its original packaging - it will not be secured to the table. I have not seen or felt any nicks/chips in the china set. However, one teacup has what appears to be a red paint smear (see picture) that likely occurred during production. I believe this does not affect this set's value, but may add to it!
