Description: Statue of Venus Goddess Venus Sculpture This beautiful, one of a kind, goddess sculpture is a representation of the Venus sculpture artifacts. Not to be confused with Venus, one of the pantheon of gods of the Romans, the name was given to artifacts originally found in Willendorf, Austria dating from almost 30,000 years ago. Some of the oldest of these types of artifacts date from 35,000 to 40,000 years ago, found in Germany. During the time I was working writing this ad, I saw a tv program about the island of Malta and even there, dating from tens of thousands of years later, were stone statues of this type, of the female corpulent, fertile form, certainly showing this was one of the most important of earliest human concepts, lasting over tens of thousands of years. It is amazing that some of the earliest artifacts from early humans ever found are these statuettes depicting buxom, corpulent female forms, considered by scholars to be a form of fertility deity also relating to prosperity and abundance. Extremely interesting, there is plenty of information available online. Also interesting, is that a new appreciation of the female form has become ever popular in our culture, This statue was carved by a known, if not, renowned artist. I inherited it from my mother, a collector of objets d'art and who, was particularly interested in the Venus artifacts. She had a number of these Venus forms, some of these reproductions still found on ebay today. Unfortunately, over the many years I have had it, I have lost its origin information. I am hoping that among the erudite experts of art perusing Ebay, someone might be able to identify the artist. It was made, from my knowledge, in the 1950's or the 1960's. I would add any information anyone could provide to me. It is a little over 2 feet tall and is made, from what I remember, padauk, a beautiful reddish hardwood. It does not stand by itself, my mother had it displayed in a custom made shelf system, she had made for objets d'art, and rare and interesting books. This piece is museum worthy. Also, sadly, I am having a great difficulty using Ebay's newish format to create an ad. It has changed greatly since I last sold anything, so please consider only what appears in the item's written description, as what I am trying to convey about the piece. For instance, I can't remove the empty boxes that appear in the ad, though I have noticed that this seems to be common in many of the ads I have perused. I love Ebay and head right here when I am looking for something, so please don't take this as anything negative, it is likely my fault. Also, I have somewhat limited time online, so I have to ask anyone responding to this ad to allow some extra time for me to respond to you. Thank you.
