Description: This is a toll receipt issued on June 15, 1935, for passage across The Maine Carlton Bridge spanning the Kennebec River between Bath and Woolwich, Maine. The paper receipt measures 4-5/8" x 3". The Maine Carlton Bridge was opened in November 1927 to replace the ferry service in operation until that time. Vehicular traffic, except for freight trains, was transferred to a new bridge in August 2000. The receipt is in overall good condition, is mostly readable although it has faded some over the many years. It has proudly served as a bookmark for many years which has helped to preserve it.
