Description: Red Transferware Miniature Dolls Dinner Plate TRIO FISHERS Cork, Edge & Malkin Staffordshire England c. 1850 This fantastic set of three miniature ironstone plates is a stunning and scarce transferware collection, circa 1850. Originally part of a complete miniature childrens dinner service or antique dollhouse accessory, the three graduated plates measure 2-1/4 inches, 4 inches, and 5-1/2 inches (with tab handles) in diameter, transfer printed in a brilliant country red. The set is decorated in the scarce FISHERS pattern, depicting a boy and girl sitting by the side of a river with their fishing poles and bait, cows grazing near a bridge in the distance. The inside rim is embellished with a guilloche chain of circles and a stylized fleur de lis. The plates are marked with the pattern name FISHERS and the initials of the maker Cork, Edge Malkin & Co., a 19th century pottery manufactory in the Staffordshire region of England. The pattern is discussed in Doris Lechler's English Toy China as well as Lorraine Punchard's Playtime Pottery and Porcelain from the UK and US. The set is in overall fair condition. The tiny plate has no chips, cracks or repairs. The middle plate has a tight a visible mostly from the underside only. The large plate or tray has a hairline crack at 7 o’clock on the rim, as shown. No other chips cracks or repairs. Minor typical crazing and firing imperfections consistent with age. These tiny childrens or dolls plates are like pocket size works of art. A sweet example, and an ideal mantlepiece for a doll house living room. Especially desirable in this colorful motif. Animal lovers adore the pattern!
