It is possible to install these upside down AND the spool type spacers are for support between the head and the adapters. Which seems reasonable but I wish I had recognized that prior to install. I ended up bending the adapter a little before I caught that. I even called Speedway tech prior to install and they didnt know either! So bottom line its ridiculous these didnt have instructions or a picture of how they install. I havent noticed any leaks yet but I may have to buy another set. if they do.
