Description: This is a rather puzzling box that seems to have a particular purpose but I can't figure out what that might be. The odd oval opening in its top was meant for something, but what? The opening is beveled and there is nothing obvious about the reason for it. To put a picture in? Might it be a ballot box? The notching is incredibly deep and amazingly precise. The finish is aged silver, possibly radiator paint. The hinges are strong and the hasp connects smoothly. It, and the hinges, are also painted silver. Difficult to date, but I would estimate early 20th century. Its best feature is the excellent notching which is one layer on the sides and two on top. It is about 4x4x14. There is some scuffing but no breaks or losses. U.S. buyers please. [Boston Primitive]
