Description: maxuta_id="034153" SOYUZ-26 FLOWN BURNT THERMAL PROTECTION ELEMENT #1, COA The item up for sale here is the part of the unique thermal protection of the Soviet spacecraft Soyuz-26, flown in space and burnt from its outer side upon the re-entry of the lander in 1978. This thermal protection element kept intact the transportation wire rope what is placed near the entrance hatch of the Soyuz lander. This wire rope is intended to install the lander in the vertical position using the crane of the evacuation rescue vehicle. It's also used to put the capsule onto the rescue vehicle to take it from its landing place. This burnt thermal casing was removed from the lander by the rescue team to free the cable with subsequent lifting the capsule, facing the hatch up. It has been done to evacuate the crew members - the cosmonauts Vladimir Dzhanibekov and Oleg Makarov. The burnt thermal protection element was presented to one of the rescuers as a memorable gift. In late 2000-s, after his death, the family decided to sell it to collectors. One of the previous owners certified its flown status with the COA, although it is clear from its appearance that this thermal protection element fulfilled its task during the re-entry of the descent module. This element is burnt outside but kept its original structure inside. It has 4 mounting holes and the signs of glue (or other substance) around them. Very interesting item for researchers of the Soviet space technologies! Length - about 29 cm (11.5"). Condition - very good, saved its shape, burnt outside remaining intact inside, with the signs of glue (or something) around its mounting holes. COA is available for this thermal protection element.
