Description: Soviet Russian USSR WWII medal Order of the Red Star with serial number in the 3.6 million range, researched, formally awarded in 1947 as a wound award, but physically presented only in 1970 (i.e. a "catch-up" award) to Lieutenant Nikolai Titorenko, for heroism in July-August 1941 in the Battle of Uman! The Battle of Uman was a utter catastrophe for the Red Army, with two entire field armies surround and destroyed in the course of a month. Total Soviet casualties were upward of 200,000 men. Titarenko's award citation reads as follows: "In the area southwest of the city of Uman on the Southwestern Front, in the personal reserve of the commander of the 80th Rifle Division, Major-General Prokhorov, Lieutenant Titarenko was given the mission of capturing the village of Kopenkovataya. The platoon under command of Lieutenant Titarenko took the village in an assault. In taking the aforementioned village, an enemy armored vehicle was knocked out by Lieutenant Titarenko personally and its crew of 3 men taken prisoner. Lieutenant Titarenko's last mission was to force the river Sinyukha. While crossing the river and laying a bridge, Lieutenant Titarenko was severely wounded in the left leg.At the present time he is an invalid of the Patriotic War, 2nd group. Due to his health, he is not working.Lieutenant Titarenko N. V. deserves recommendation for the Government award the Order of the Red Star." General Vasily Ivanovich Prokhorov commanded the 80th Rifle Division at the Battle of Uman. He was wounded there and captured. He died in a concentration camp in 1943. The 80th Rifle Division was utterly destroyed in the battle. Rare award for the Battle of Uman! Awards for the disasters of 1941 – even "catch-up" awards – are quite scarce. Condition is outstanding, as seen in the images! The serial number of the award is authentic and matches the serial number shown in the archival documents, obviously! If you require confirmation in advance, please send me a message, and I will gladly provide images. Over time, I have found that redacting award serial numbers in certain listings (particularly of researched awards) has acted a simple and effective filter to sort good customers from troublesome eBay hooligans. Reasonable, rational collectors who are genuinely interested in the history represented by an award will make the effort to reach out and will quickly find that everything is in order. Winner will be provided with archival research (8 pages - including Citation and Award Record Card) in electronic format, unredacted, in color, plus two archival portraits of Titarenko, also in electronic format. Professional English translation of the Record Card and Citation is available if requested before receipt of item. No returns. All questions in advance. I will answer all coherent, respectful inquiries to the best of my ability. INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING AVAILABLE only through eBay’s Global Shipping Program (GSP). With this program: once the item is delivered to the address to which eBay directs me to ship, all responsibility for final safe delivery of the item to the buyer becomes eBay’s.
