Frans Masereel (1889-1972), a Belgian graphic artist, spent the greater part of his career working in France. The sixteen woodcuts collected in this volume can be read as a memento of his native land. Masereel is considered by some to be the creator of the woodcut novel, and his influence is clear in the work of Lynd Ward and later graphic artists including the graphic novelist Eric Drooker. An interesting bookplate on the front end paper, "Julien J. Grunberg". This volume is copy #105/165, printed on Holland Van Gelder paper. Signed by Masereel on the front colophon. AS IS!
