The springbok can also be found in two uncommon color varieties - White or Black. The Black Springbok is born a deep solid black color, developing to two shades of chocolate brown with a white marking on the face as it matures. Both sexes have black, cone-shaped horns that curve backwards. The name Springbok comes from the Afrikaans words: 'spring' meaning jump, and 'book's meaning antelope or goat.
