Mid 19th century lithographed map with hand color. Of note for the naming of the large and short-lived 'Orange Free Sovereignty" which only existed 1848-54. Inset top center only shows one large large south of the Equator within the eastern interior. Paper and image remains clean and well preserved with a fine patina and visual appeal, two short edge splits along bottom nicely closed on reverse with archival tape. Original center fold as issued. Sheet measures c. 17 1/4" H x 23" W. Printed area measures c. 16 1/4" H x 22" W. Tooley's Dictionary of Mapmakers, vol. 1. [R34297].
