Description: British Parliament 1925 Vintage Lithograph Sons & Daughters of New England in 1810-1830Three (3) pages American History Illustration(s)* Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE ABOUT THIS ILLUSTRATION: These are not sons and daughters of the rich, painted by fashionable artists trained in European traditions, but boys and girls of the village and town. They were portrayed, before the age of popular photography, by men who might have been apprenticed as sign painters, wall stencilers, or perhaps tinware decorators. Their “likenesses,” for which one itinerant artist charged as little as $2.92 (including frame and glass), portray average young Americans of the early eighteen hundreds, dressed up in their Sunday best. Oddly, for the most part, the artists of the paintings depicted in these illustrations are known, but the names of the children are not. American history illustrations. Such collections are usually the result of school projects. While of not great value, they each present a great image related to American history. Condition is generally good with some surface handling wear. Prior to this, virtually all prints (and engravings) were produced as illustrations to be included in a manuscript, book, newspaper, or pamphlet. Therefore, a vast majority of original prints have been over the years removed from these original sources. Prints are produced using many different techniques: relief printing (woodcut & wood engraving), intaglio printing (steel & copper plate engraving, drypoint, aquatint, etc), and planographic printing (lithography, serigraphy, inkjet, laser, etc.). While the commercial value of a print depends on such factors as age, rarity, and condition, the real value of a print is its tie to its history and/or its esthetic beauty.
