Description: This little book published in London in 1838 entitled "Society for promoting Christian Knowledge", was a gift to a young lady named Cliva Starr born August 30, 1822. The book measures 4 inches by 7 inches and has 76 pages. The book is about the importance of religious life and includes some morning and evening prayers. In gifting this book to Ms Starr, the writer states: Steel not this book for fear of shame for hear doth stand the horrers. And then "Name", which probably the thief is suppose to fill in when he steals the book! Hear should be "here" and horrers should be "horors". Very interesting. We have lost track of the lineage of this book except it has been in the family for a long time and the Starr name has disappeared in memory, so we thought we'd see if anyone is interested in this family heirloom. The book is fragile and shows it's age with the front cover loose and the binding is kind of coming apart, but still a unique book with good messages and prayers enclosed. Hard to imagine that Ms Starr was born nearly 200 years ago and the book is getting close to that now. A real keepsake!
