My observation that a given tape played fine on a Realistic TR-169 is NOT a guarantee that your machine will yield similar performance-- or for how long. Since this is a used, UNRESTORED tape, performance deficiencies concerning the pads or splice are possible. Thus, please order with the understanding that I neither accept returns, nor give adjustments or refunds related to performance matters. In fact, I strongly recommend this tape NOT be played until it can be carefully evaluated or serviced if needed. Further, 8-track tapes were never designed to travel through the mail and rough handling can, on rare occasions, result in the tape un-spooling-- something over which I have no control. Unspooling is the reason a tape might drag or go “Whump… Whump… Whump” rather than tracking smoothly. In the event of a problem I’m happy to provide contact information for my 8-track guy who, for about $3, will rebuild it with new pads, splice, and sensing foil- a smokin’ good deal considering the time involved. Sorry for the lengthy disclaimer! Most 8-track guys already know this stuff, are quite familiar with the legendary unreliability of this format, and probably keep a splicing block, razor blade and sensing foil at the ready. But it gives me something firm and final to paste into a return message from somebody who’s shocked—SHOCKED!!-- that his 60 year-old Sears Silvertone ate a 50 year old 8-track tape-- and implies that this is somehow MY fault.
