Description: Up for sale is a Spalding Official Baseball signed by 17 members of the minor league Salem Senators baseball team circa 1953, including ex-Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Chuck Essegian. The most prominent signature maybe that of Hugh Luby, who became synonymous with baseball in the Willamette Valley. He managed the Senators, at the time an unaffiliated team in the Western International League, and also served as general manager. Later he served in the same capacities with the Eugene Emeralds of the Northwest League, as well as president of the league. Outside of stints with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1936 and the New York Giants in 1944, Luby was a career minor league player, from 1931 to 1956. Other players who signed are Jim Deyo, Larry Barst, Jack Hemphill, Bob Collins, Dave Dahle, Jerry Ballard, Don Masterson, Conrado Perez, Gene Roenspie, Dick Sabatini, Bob Nelson, Gene Tanselli, Les Witherspoon, Joe Nicholas and Jim Peterson.
