His You Better Keep Her won some plays on the UK Northern soul scene. Holmes is considered to be one of the founding fathers of Oakland funk. Marvin Holmes & The Uptights emerged as the Oakland Bay Areas hottest soul band in the early 60s and 70s. The Funky Mule, Part 1 & 2 became a national hit.
