Description: This lot consists of two autographs of women who played in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. The two players are Jean Havlish and Gert Alderfer. The AAGPBL operated from 1943 through 1954. It was made famous by the 1992 movie A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN. All of the players of the AAGPBL are honored by a permanent display at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. Jean Ann Havlish (born 1935) was a shortstop for the Fort Wayne Daisies. Her nickname was "Grasshopper". Havlish was noted for her strong defensive abilities; in one game, she started a triple play. After the AAGPBL disbanded, Havlish played for the Minneapolis Comets in a fast-pitch softball league. Afterwards, she competed at a high level for many years in several amateur and professional bowling leagues. Havlish was been inducted into the Women's International Bowling Congress Hall of Fame in 1987; the Minnesota State Women's Hall of Fame in 1991; the St. Bernard’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007; and is also a member of the Minnesota Sports Hall of Fame. Gertrude Alderfer (born 1931) played first base and catcher for the Springfield Sallies, the Kalamazoo Lassies, and the Muskegon Lassies. Her baseball career was cut short when she decided to stay home and take care of her sick mother. Following her baseball career, she worked at Ameter, Inc., for over 40 years, retiring in 1993. The autographs are on 2" by 3.5" cards. See the scans for more details. Shipping is FREE via USPS First Class Mail. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
