Description: Gorgeous set of 4 handpainted game bird plates by Royal Doulton. Each is artist signed by J.H. Plant. c.1910. These Plates sell at Fine Antique Stores for over 200.00 US each The game birds are all unique and include: Woodcock Snipe Red Legged Partridge Prairie Hen They are completely handpainted and signed by J H Plant on the front. There is fine gilt work around the edges. The marks include the Royal Doulton logo. John Hugh Plant worked at Doulton between 1902-1920. After studying at the Hanley School of Art and serving his apprenticeship at the Brown- Westhead, Moore Pottery in that town, Plant spent many years with Coalport and Wedgwood as a painter of landscapes and animals before joining Doulton in 1902. A versatile artist, his signature is found on many fine pieces depicting views of Venice, Rome and other Italian cities, rustic scenes, old castles, palaces, cathedrals and cottages. His architectural sketches and drawings were of a high order. Other examples of his work include paintings of ships after Turner, fishing boats, barges, yachts, deer and other animals, game birds and fish. Very good condition.
