Description: A book of Kansas stories. Lengthy inscription to Leland Adams and signature by the author on the first title page. Stated fifth edition of the book from July 15th, 1897. Hard cover, no dust jacket. See photos for condition. Hard cover board bottom corners curled in. Some minor bumping to edges. Fabric color rubbing on corners and edges. Some spots of discoloration on spine. Silver (pencil?) marking on front board near title. Some fading to ink on boards. Slight tenderness to bottom front hinge, but overall feels robust and firm. Book plate from William Allen White Collection. Pencil on front and back endpaper. Throughout, some page are joined at the fore edge (uncut; e.g., pgs 26-27). Pages edges are untrimmed, so some edges have a small rips, chips or creases in edges. A number of pages have very small, minor blemish marks, such as small dot marks or faded dark smudges. Page edges toning a bit. Binding overall good and tight, but some widening in the gutters with mesh visible on pgs 144-145, where cracks are forming at the top and bottom (~1/4 in), but overall feels robust. Pages appear clean and clear of highlighting, writing, markings, underlining, or other notable damage or staining.
