Description: The book is flat-signed on the first title page. I purchased this book already signed. I did not witness the signing and have not had it authenticated. I have only compared it to known signatures. There are photographs throughout of Coach Abe's life and career as well as the many famous people he encountered along the way. I interviewed Coach Lemons after his final game, which was a playoff loss, leaving him one short of 600. I asked him about missing that milestone. His answer was typical Abe Lemons. Paraphrasing- "No one will remember 600 wins, but they sure will remember that I only got 599." He was fired at Texas. The athletic director was a former track coach. Coach Lemons loved to tell us that the lowlight was getting fired by a track coach. What's there to coaching track? Tell them to turn left and get back as fast as you can. What a treasure! ABOUT THE BOOK: (from an Amazon review) I knew Coach Lemons personally and counted him as a dear friend for many years. This book is very accurate in its historical content and also did the coach a great and much needed service. While he was a man given to wry and side splitting humor, he was also a coaching genius. In addition, he was a loyal friend always. While I wasn't an official team member, I did scrimmage with the teams and was included in some of their events. Over the years, Abe stayed in touch with me and included me in his life. The testimonies attributed to him by some of the coaching greats speak for themselves. His teams at OCU in the late 1960s were among the best college teams I have ever seen to date. If you are a sportsman, you will thoroughly enjoy this book about a truly great man. ABOUT ABE LEMONS: (from Oklahoma Hall of Fame) Abe Lemons won 599 games and produced several All-Americans as one of the country's premier major college basketball coaches from 1955 to 1990. Along the way, at Oklahoma City University, Pan American University, and the University of Texas, Abe became the most quoted basketball coach ever. USA Today chose Abe's famous line, "Doctors bury their mistakes, ours are still on scholarship," as the sports quote of the century. However, the thousands of quotable, hilarious remarks make up only a small part of the life of Abe Lemons. Behind the funny-man exterior is a superb basketball mind. Abe understands the most minute intricacies of the game. He could develop a defense to shut down any offense. Some have said Abe s skill of coaching basketball players on offense was unparalleled in the history of the game. Often his teams were among the national leaders in scoring.
