Description: This is a handwritten letter from Olivette Yeingst (1901-1931) and Violette Yeingst (1901-1943). These two ladies were sisters (possibly twins) who attended Dickinson College, located in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Both of these ladies died at an early age. Their father, Wilbur M. Yeingst (1875-1933), graduated from Dickinson in 1897. He was a member of the Dickinson football team in the 1890s. I have found evidence suggesting that he later became a teacher of mathematics. The letter is dated April 28, 1921, and is written on a folded piece of paper. Unfolded, it is about 6" by 10". The address on the letter is "Metzger Hall, Carlisle, Pa." Metzger Hall was a dormitory for women, built in 1913, and torn down around the year 1964. It was located about six blocks from the Dickinson College campus. The letter is a note of condolence, written to someone named Helen. The letter is signed "With Sincere Sympathy, Olivette and Violette Yeingst ". It appears that the names were actually signed by only one of the sisters, but I cannot be sure of this. Please see the scans for more info. Violette later married the Rev. Howard D. Bare (1901-1951), who was pastor from 1924 to 1951 of St. Paul’s Methodist Church, located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The letter is in good condition, with creases where it was folded.
