Description: This beautiful vibrant work of art was created by the late Potter Shirley Johnson. No chips or cracks, crazing is present please see all photos for measurements and any areas of concern. About the Artist: For over 35 years Shirley created high fired hand thrown porcelain pottery with glazes made from ash that fell on Spokane when Mount Saint Helens blew on May 18th, 1980. "The ash that fell in Spokane", she says, "was perfect ~ in CDA it was too fine and in the Tri-Cities it was too coarse". While doing graduate work at the University of Minnesota, she enrolled in a pottery course taught by Warren MacKenzie. From then on she accepted employment at places where she could advance her ceramics skills. She worked at Warren MacKenzie's studio from 1973-1982. She relocated her studio to the Northern Clay Center when it opened. . There she created and sold her pots and conducted workshops and classes. Her work appeared in many juried exhibitions in Mid West cities, as well as on the East and West Coasts. She wrote articles and reviews and was editor of the Craft Connection magazine. Shirley took pride in the beauty in her garden and helped others design and tend theirs.
