These gears areused to align the bowling pins for placement. This is a very special wall hanging and greatconversation piece. I include the metal manufacturer's tag with theserial number which I pulled from the frame. This item has been degreased andsealed to retain patina and prevent rust. History of the Sherman Pinsetter The Sherman Pinsetter was developed in 1953 by a kooky inventor named KennethSherman. Before then duckpins were set by hand by human pinsetters. Manypinsetters were teenaged boys, and thus pinboy was another name used todescribe the job. Duckpins suffered a blow when the Sherman company ceased operations in 1973.Brunswick Equipment offered to buy Sherman’s patent, which would have kept themachinery in production, but he said no—a stroke of stubbornness duckpinbowlers call “The Curse Of Ken Sherman.” Parts for these pinsetters are difficult to find today, making this pinsettermain gear set highly collectable.
