Description: Temptation - framed - 48" x 36" - oil on board Shepard Levine (1927-2019), the son of Russian and Polish immigrants, grew up in New York City during the Great Depression. After serving in World War II, Shepard enrolled at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, where he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting. In 1954, Shepard Levine began teaching at Oregon State College (later University) in the Art Department where he would remain for 37 years. His paintings and prints are held in both private and public collections, including the Portland Art Museum. The subject matter and style of Levine's paintings evolved over time. This painting from his Commentary Series of ten oil paintings completed during the early 1990s reflects the final resting place of his evolution as a painter. It was done using a novel combination of the Renaissance Mische Technique and a paint spray gun. This painting was inspired by Donald Trump, Ivana Trump and Marla Maples long before 2015.
