It is green leather with flat spine and rounded corners, and an embossed gilded framed shield and spear holding Gryphon in a frame on the front of each volume, instead of the usual blindstamped J. M. Dent vignette. All pages clean and unmarked inside. One of a kind ExLibris design with the owner's initials pasted into end papers. No dust covers. Front cover and first endpage detached on the Tragedies volume.This same spot is a weak point in the binding design for all volumes, with The Comedies volume showing a split inside at this point. Marker ribbon is loose in the Histories volume, intact in others. Chipping and wear to top and bottom of spines, see pictures. wear to hinge edges and light wear to cover edges. Gilding is bright on covers and lettering. Reginald Knowles-designed gilt spine titling & decorations. Also fancy Knowles woodcut art at title page, endpapers & frontis of each volume. Fine thin Indian paper used. Each volume includes a glossary.
