Description: It can be tricky to centrifuge a suspension that contains something you would rather not expose to plastic or that contains one of the many non-aqueous solvents that do not play well with plastic. Heavy-duty centrifuge tubes like these offer a potential solution. They have the same short conical bottom shape as most plastic disposable 50 mL cebtrifuge tubes and require an appropriate rotor/adapter for this shape. Tubes are graduated from 0.5 mL to 10 mL in 0.5 mL increments, and from 10 mL to 40 mL in 1 mL increments. The conical bottom makes it easy to measure small volumes. Graduations, volume labels, and a labeling spot are printed in durable white enamel. A pourout spout facilitates decanting of the supernatant, and widens the otherwise plain top by a few mm, within about 7 mm of the top. This is above where the wider top or tube threads begin at the top of a typical conical 50 mL tube (e.g. Corning 352070 Falcon tubes), about 108 mm from the bottom. Thicker walls strengthen these tubes, at the price of a volume smaller than 50 mL so they will still meet the shape constraints of standard centrifuge rotors. They are apparently rated to 6000g, but that number is from a VWR listing, not from Corning, and sure seems high.
