He grew up in a family with a long artistic tradition; In painting, Bernardo, Julio Enrique and Rafael Simonet stand out, and their most recognized representative was his grandfather Enrique Simonet Lombardo (1866-1927). His paternal grandfather, Antonio Parera (1868-1946), was a notable sculptor. Carlos Parera's pictorial work has been exhibited in Madrid (Henry's, 1956) and in New York (Columbia University, 1960). He trained as a specialist in Neuroradiology at the Presbyterian Hospital of Columbia University together with Professor Taveras. Some years after his return to Spain, and from his section head at the Puerta de Hierro Clinic in Madrid, he contributed to the modernization of Radiology and was a determined promoter of Neuroradiology, both diagnostic and interventional. Carlos Parera's artistic and scientific duality made him a human and professional reference for many generations of Spanish neuroradiologists trained with him, and who today practice their specialty in hospitals throughout the national geography.
