Description: Offered is a one of a kind signed 3x5" index card from Negro League legend Holsey "Script or Scrip" Lee Sr. Born in 1899, Scrip made his debut in 1921 for the Bacharach Giants. He also played for the Baltimore Black Sox, Hilldale Club, Philadelphia Stars, and finishing his career for the Cleveland Red Sox in 1934. He has written a lengthy inscription "Holsey S. Lee Sr. Date and Place of birth: 1-29-99 Wash DC. Greatest Player you ever saw: Martin Dihigio. Biggest thrill in Baseball: "My biggest thrill was when I relieved Red Ryan in the fifth inning trailing 5 to 3 and the game ended 5 all in the 12 on the account of darkness. over-This was the first Colored World Series in Oct.1924. And Martin Dihigio could play all the positions and good, but I liked to see him pitch and play S.S. and C.F. and he had the best arm in baseball white or black better than Ruth, Musel ( possibly Stan Musial or Bob Meusel), Maxie, and Domago ( possible Joe DiMaggio)." Besides being one of the best pitchers in the Negro League, Scrip was a War Hero. Lee's unit fought against Pancho VIlla's forces at the Mexican border in 1916. He also served in World War I, earning 2 Battle Stars and a Purple Heart. Beckett has slabbed the card authentic. Scrip passed away in Feb. 1974. Notice some tape residue on back of the card.
