Description: Schumann Bavaria Plate 11.75" Serving Charger HP Fruits & Nuts 1960 E&R Importer Exquisite Decorative LARGE Serving CHARGER PLATE 11 3/4" from Schumann in Arzberg, Bavaria, FRUITS & NUTS w/LEAVES Design on HIGH WHITE PORCELAIN w/GOLD Trim on Rim, circa 1960 DESCRIPTION: The beautiful hand painted charger plate was produced with beautiful fruit & nut design on the high white porcelain with gold trim on the smooth rim. The design looks so classic. This makes a beautiful display plate or can be used everyday. The color palette used is: brown, yellow, green and red w/gold. CONDITION: While this large charger plate is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. There are no utensil marks. There is no wear to the gold or paint. See the photos. DIMENSIONS: The plate has a diameter of 11 3/4" and a height of 1 1/2". HISTORY/MARKS: The factory was founded in 1881 by Christian Heinrich Schumann in Arzberg, Bavaria after being forced to close his previous pottery (founded 1876) due to the development of a rail road through the factory. Upon his death, the pottery was run by his widow until his youngest son, Carl Schumann I, married in 1896 and assumed management. The company was incorporated in July of 1923. In 1926, Carl’s son, who had been studying in America, assumed leadership after his father’s untimely death at 55. After WWII, the pottery flourished, but never regained its prior success as Japanese products flooded the American & European markets. The business stayed in the family until it was closed in 1994. The mark on this plate is identified by the website PM&M (porcelainmarksandmore) as mark #3-47 which was used in the 1960-1970 time period. The importer, Ebeling & Reuss (E & R), mark was used 1950-1960 as cited in porcelainmarksandmore as mark #1-26, circa 1960. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
