Description: Please take the time to read through my entire item description and view all the photographs. I consistently prepare accurate and detailed descriptions and provide clear close up photographs and video when appropriate for all my listings. The aforementioned notwithstanding, note the photos are still the biggest and most important part of this or any description. As the old saying goes, "a picture is worth a thousand words". If you would like additional photos or have specific questions just message me and I will respond ASAP. For your consideration is this EMPTY vintage and nostalgic early 1950’s SCHOEN'S Old Lager BEER 12 fluid oz. flat top can “brewed and packed by Wausau Brewing Company WIS”. I copied a brief history of the founder Louis Schoen, his Beer brand and Company, and am including it below for your further review and consideration. “Schoen's Old Lager was named for Louis Schoen, born in Bavaria in 1876. He immigrated to the United States in 1892. Schoen went to La Crosse and became Brewmaster at G. Heileman’s Brewing Company. Schoen was an old-world sort of brewer; he insisted his lager be aged nine weeks before it left the brewery. His exactitude was acceptable before Prohibition hit in 1920 but when the dry years were over; Schoen's meticulousness became problematic. In 1933, when Prohibition ended, the G. Heileman Brewing Co. came roaring out of the gate. It would grow to become the largest Wisconsin brewery outside of Milwaukee. That growth wasn't compatible with Schoen's ethos. At Heileman, they couldn't wait nine weeks for a batch of beer to be finished; so Schoen had to go. 1in 1934, the company let him go. Schoen went to settle in Wausau and later in 1934 he helped launch the Wausau Brewing Company. There Schoen produced Louis Schoen's Old Lager Beer. Although Louis Schoen died in 1965, by that time the beer with his name on it was already in the hands of others. The Wausau Brewing Co. closed in 1961. Its brands were immediately scooped up by Rhinelander Brewing Co. and Rhinelander began producing its version Schoen's Old Lager Beer but the company never aged the beer the full nine weeks as Schoen had always insisted”. This beer can was opened, emptied and undoubtedly enjoyed back in the day. The can is made out of steel (it’s magnetic) and weighs approximately 3.0 ounces by itself. The overall measurements of the can are approximately 4.75” tall and 2-5/8” in diameter. Refer to description photos #15, #16 and #17 to confirm the weight and size dimensions and for more details about what I have described. This style Schoen’s beer can is a scarce find today. The beer can style was in production and use during the late 1940’s to early 1950’s. To that end, being conservative, I believe this can dates to the early 1950’s at the latest. The top of the can has obviously been opened as there are two opposing triangular shaped holes that are a tell-tales of the old fashion “can openers” used to gain entry back in the day. The outside surface of the beer can remains in fair to good condition given it is 70+ years old. There NO DENTS as can be verified in the description photos. The painted surface remains mostly clean with scattered surface blemishes from honest age and handling over the past seven decades. The red, gold and white colors on the can’s sides remain mostly vibrant and the printed graphics clear and legible as can be confirmed in the description photos. As previously mentioned, there are scattered areas of small rust spots, some paint loss from wear and mottled age spots on the white background but overall, the can remains presentable and will make a nice addition to your collection of vintage beer memorabilia. The top of the can has scattered surface rust but a lot of the original silver colored finish remains and can still be seen. Conversely, the bottom of the can is covered with light surface rust with only a few areas of the original silver colored metal coming through in spots. Luckily, when the can is displayed the bottom is not visible thus the noted issue is mitigated. Refer to description photos #2, #3, #4, #5, #6 and #7 for more details about the top and bottom of the beer can and what I have described. The can features duplicate graphics on both the front and back sides that advertises (4) four identical lines of information that read as follows below. Refer to description photos #1, #2, #3, #4, #8, #9, #10, #11, #12, #13 and #14 for more details about what I have described. “SCHOEN’S” “Old Lager” “BEER” “Known for Quality” Immediately below the aforementioned graphics appears to additional lines of product advertisement and information. On one side of the can a line reads “KEEP UPRIGHT AT 42°F DECANT SLOWLY” and on the opposite side of the can there is a line that reads “CONTENTS 12 FLUID OZ.”. In addition, there is one more single line of information printed around the bottom edge; encircling the perimeter of the bottom of the can. This line of information simply reads as follows, “BREWED AND PACKED BY WAUSAU BREWING CO., WAUSAU, WIS.”. Refer to description photos #1, 8, #9, #10, #11, 12, #13 and #14 to confirm what is printed and for more details about what I have described. Overall, this is a surviving example of a bygone era in time and beer history that any collector would appreciate acquiring for their collection and/or for display among their other pieces of beer memorabilia. This vintage flat top beer can would look great displayed in any man cave, sports room, home bar, etc. Please look at the description photos closely as they confirm the condition of the Schoen’s Old Lager beer flat top can I describe and accurately depict the exact can you will receive if you purchase this item.
