Description: Rare Uncirculated 1818 English King George III Silver Half Crown In Investment Condition. This coin is in impeccable order and has been handed down several generations and has always been kept in a lovely dry place. I am in my mid sixties and this coin is one of very few coins belonging to my great grandfather. I’m told he (and my grandfather) always used to keep selected coins in a humidity controlled box (similar to a cigar box) which was atmospherically controlled to keep them dry and they were there right through George III and Victorian periods all the way through to George V period when it was finally handed down to my father. I inherited this coin in 1983 when my father passed away and I have always kept it in a perspex capsule and in a box with silicone sachets to keep it completely dry and tarnish free. I loved the unusual original box and used it for my cigars and had it in my possession until some years ago when sadly that along with a few other small antiques was lost (or stolen) during our house move. This coin has been cherished and lovingly looked after for over 200 years and is free from damage and scratches. It has only ever been handled with cotton gloves! I have carefully taken it out of the perspex capsule to photograph and placed it back in it after doing so. It will be extremely rare to find a silver coin this age in such remarkable condition. It is almost as if this coin in new. Fantastic condition. I hope to find it a good home and someone who will cherish it and look after it as my family have. Unfortunately my children have no interest in coins. Hence the reluctanct sale. He was concurrently Duke and prince-elector of Brunswick-Lüneburg ("Hanover") in the Holy Roman Empire before becoming King of Hanover on 12 October 1814. He was the third British monarch of the House of Hanover, but unlike his two predecessors, he was born in Great Britain, spoke English as his first language and never visited Hanover. George's life and reign, which were longer than those of any of his predecessors, were marked by a series of military conflicts involving his kingdoms, much of the rest of Europe, and places farther afield in Africa, the Americas, and Asia. Early in his reign, Great Britain defeated France in the Seven Years' War, becoming the dominant European power in North America and India. However, many of Britain's American colonies were soon lost in the American War of Independence. Further wars against revolutionary and Napoleonic France from 1793 concluded in the defeat of Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. In the later part of his life, George had recurrent, and eventually permanent, mental illness. Although it has since been suggested that he had bipolar disorder or the blood disease porphyria, the cause of his illness remains unknown. After a final relapse in 1810, a regency was established. His eldest son, George, Prince of Wales, ruled as Prince Regent until his father's death, when he succeeded as George IV. Historical analysis of George III's life has gone through a "kaleidoscope of changing views" that have depended heavily on the prejudices of his biographers and the sources available to them. American War of Independence (1775-1783), The French Revolution (1789-1799) and the Napoleonic Wars ((1803-1815) all took place during the reign of King George III.
