Description: SCARCE 1837 Bayly & Burns’ Edition Publication WHITTINGTON AND HIS CAT *As Found Wonderful old copy of the British folktale Whittington and His Cat (or I’ve seen it called The Renowned History of Richard Whittington and His Cat or the History of Richard Whittington, modern title Tales of Dick Whittington and His Cat) edition published by Bayly & Burns in Baltimore, 1837. Reminds me of a juvenile chap book or primer book - features printed paper wrap covers, great hand-colored plates with letterpress impression text on good quality paper…rarity, I could not find another one like this! In researching, Bayly & Burns Booksellers & Stationers were located at 132 Market Street in Baltimore, I found information online about their work with publications for Edgar Allan Poe. Measures 4.5” x 7.25”, all pages shown above. Condition is exactly as found & pictured – normal signs of 187 year age/use, pulled away/loose lower binding, owner’s name written inside, slight bend to copy lying flat, staining throughout and small page folds/creases…please see all photos for specifics.
