Description: Beautiful Santa Clara Pueblo Pottery Blackware Wedding Vase by Mida Tafoya (1931-2024). Features a two spout vase with avanyu design carved around the body, base is signed Mida Tafoya. Measures 7 3/4" high x 5 1/2" long x 4 1/4" diameter. Mida Tafoya was born into Santa Clara Pueblo in 1931, the daughter of Victor and Christina Naranjo. Her aunt was Margaret Tafoya, her grandmother was Sara Fina Tafoya. Mida grew up in households where someone was in the process of making pottery all the time: she saw the best at work, everywhere she went, but she always said she learned the most from her mother. In turn she taught all her own children, Ethel Vigil, Donna Tafoya, Sherry Tafoya, Robert Tafoya, Red Bird Tafoya and Cookie Tafoya, how to make pottery the traditional way, too. Mida primarily made blackware and redware jars, bowls and wedding vases. She preferred to carve them with variations of avanyu and ring-of-feather designs.
