Koufax, playing for the Dodgers from 1955-1966, commanded a scorching fastball and devastating overhand curveball, dominant by his mid-twenties. In 1961 he struck out 261 batters to win the first of four NL Strikeout crowns. For the next 5 seasons, he would be dominating, leading the league in ERA five straight years. That would win him Cy Young Awards in 1963, 1965 and 1966. That 5-year span may be the greatest period of one pitcher being almost unhittable that the game has ever known. His nickname 'The Left Arm of God' was earned as he led the Dodgers to World Series Championships in 1955, 1959, 1963 and 1965, twice named World Series MVP. A 7-time All-Star, he was the National League Most Valuable Player in 1963. He won 3 Pitching Triple Crowns, led the league in Wins 3 times, Strikeouts 4 times and ERA 5 times. Koufax pitched 4 No-Hitters, including a Perfect Game on September 9, 1965. One of the All-Time Greats, his Number 32 is retired by the Dodgers, he was named to MLB's All-Century Team and to MLB's All-Time Team. When arthritis in his elbow ended his 12-year career at the age of just 30, he became the youngest elected to Baseball's Hall of Fame in 1972 at age 36. His career record was 165-87, with 2,396 Strikeouts and a 2.76 ERA.
