When you connect a conventional progressive-scan DVD player to an HD-capable fixed-pixel display, a 480p analog signal is sent through the component video output to the TV, which then "scales" or upconverts the signal to the TV's native resolution. The DVD-HD931 performs this scaling internally, while the signal is still digital.
