M. is significant as an artist, stage designer and memorialist. Valentina Mikhaylovna is a niece of the famous poet and prose writer V. Khodasevich. Studied in art studios of F. Rerberg (Moscow, 1908-1910), Essig (Munich, 1910-1911), K. Van-Dongen (Paris, 1911-1912). Since 1919 to 1912 worked as stage designer in Narodnaya Komediya theatre. Designed performances in Moscow and Leningrad theatres, including BDT (the Bolshoi Dramatic Theatre), Aleksandriyskiy theatre, Mariinskiy theatre. Made a significant contribution to formation of new ways of decorating stages and tricks.
