Limited edition of 1000 My personal comments from 40 years in the USSR: Drinking is the main problem in Russia. I worked as chief engineer in Construction Company. We pay salary 3 times a month. After each pay all workers came dunked for 1-2 days. So we decided to pay twice a month to save working days. I remember general conversation among laborers: “With whom; When; Where and how much they drank. One man (live in Moscow) invited relative from Saratov (He never was in Moscow before). When he arrived they obviously drink. In the morning they “opokhmelitsya” (drink over to kill headache). In the dinner they drink again. It continues for 2 weeks. On last day he told: “This is my last day, let’s go to see Kremlin” On each party calculated how much vodka to buy. Standard – half liter per person. Usually, it was not enough. I came to US in 1974 and was invited on wedding of Russian couple. Me and my friend, Ilia went to bar, and he asked barmen (big black man) vodka. Barmen took a glass and put ice. Ilia did not speak English but with gesture he told: “Ice out”. Barmen poured little vodka in glass. Ilia again with gesture asked to put more and more until 200 gr. glass was full. Ilia drank all vodka and smell his elbow (common bite after drink). I remember eyes of barmen when he looked on Ilia drinking 200 gr. in one shut After college I was sent to North Kazakhstan. (In the USSR gouvermant decided where you will work). It was bridge construction. Remember Yelin our superintendent told: I like vacations. 3 days on the train. In the morning go to wagon restaurant -150. On the dinner - another 150, in the supper also 150. Gooood.
