Description: Russia Ukraine Kholui Lacquer Wood Box Ruslan & Ludmila Vintage USSR Cold War Gift RARE This box was possibly a holder for a belt buckle (not included) and was given as a gift to a previous owner. It has a label on the interior with the original label dated 1983. It is made of wood with what feels like paint and a lacquer finish. This vintage Russian lacquer box was made in the village Kholui. The cover is hand painted with a scene from a poem by Alexander Pushkin “Ruslan and Ludmila”. The Poem is written as an epic fairy tale telling the story of the abduction of Ludmila, the daughter of Prince Vladimir of Kiev, Ukraine, by an evil wizard and attempt by the brave knight Ruslan to find and rescue her. It is signed on the bottom “Ruslan and head “(Руслан и Голова), v. Kholui ( посёлок. Холуй). Measures approximately 5" x 3.5" x 1.5".
